Sustainable Renewable Energy Solutions
What is the best renewable heating system?
There is no standard best renewable heating system as every property is different and will need differing specifications to keep your home warm. If you are considering a renewable heating system our expert sales consultants will start by looking at the fabric of the building. Is it well insulated, does it have loft insulation or cavity wall insulation, and does it have double glazing? This will allow them to complete a heat loss calculation. For example, if you have a 1930s style barn that isn’t well insulated an air source heat pump would not be suitable on this occasion, but solar PV would. If you have a post 2000 property that is well insulated with underfloor heating, then an air source heat pump would be a great renewables solution. Our sales consultants will be able to advise you regarding the best energy and cost-efficient option suitable for your style of property. For any renewable heating system to work efficiently the property must be well insulated. Find out more about our renewable heating solutions here.
What will replace gas boilers after 2025?
There is no legislation that means anyone must scrap their gas boiler before or after 2025. Tests are underway to look at solutions following the restriction on natural gas appliances, most current manufactures are producing boilers now that are “hydrogen ready” which have been tested with the introduction of 20% of hydrogen into the existing gas supply network. There are also ongoing tests by manufacturers to produce boilers that run on 100% hydrogen.
Over the last few years, you may have heard in the media about plans to ban gas boilers by 2025. Whilst any new build properties from 2025 will not be allowed to have gas or oil heating systems installed this does not mean there is a ban in place on gas boilers. Any existing gas boilers will be allowed to remain in place. The current government plans for any new heating system being installed after 2035 is to be a low carbon alternative to a gas boiler. This has not yet been made official and is only a guideline. You can read more about this in our blog here.
What is the best alternative to a gas boiler?
There is no best alternative to a gas boiler. The best solution depends on your property. Our expert sales consultants will be able to advise you on the best option for your home. Government legislation, targets and support are driving the adoption of air source heat pumps. Although these remain one of a number of solutions to moving away from a gas boiler. There are lots of alternatives such as solar panels, electric boilers, ground source heat pumps and biomass boilers. Hydrogen as a fuel is also a possibility in the future via the existing gas network and as more research and testing is done in this area, we will keep you updated.
